Here at Craven, we’re very active in supporting charities and we wanted to place a little focus
on one of them this month to mark the start of the Annual Poppy Appeal – the Royal British
Legion.

The Royal British Legion is the country’s largest Armed Forces charity, with 235,000 members,
110,000 volunteers and a network of partners and charities helping give support wherever and
whenever it’s needed. They provide lifelong support to serving and ex-serving personnel and
their families.

From providing expert advice and guidance, to recovery and rehabilitation, through to
transitioning to civilian life – the Royal British Legion can be by their side every step of the way.
Craven’s local Knaresborough branch manages to raise over £30,000 in Poppy sales for the four
weeks of the Annual Poppy Appeal, which is an amazing achievement for us seeing as this is one
of the Legion’s smaller branches! Due to the amount of Poppies it takes to raise this kind of
money, this means lots of storage is needed.

To give the charity even more support, we provided them with some free office space and
storage facilities, including a number of our Zinc Chromate 4 Tier Shelving Bays which made
storing equipment and stock much more efficient for them.

This is a great charity doing extremely worthwhile work and Craven is pleased to have been
able to make their work a little easier by helping to give them what they need.

The 2020 Poppy Appeal will run from Thursday 22nd October to Wednesday 11th November.

Our Nylon wire shelving was used to populate a cold room for one of our customers selling Christmas
turkeys. As this was an important job around Christmas time, we had to act fast. We filled up one of our
vans and travelled to Northumbria, which is around 100 miles away from Craven HQ. The wire shelving
was immediately constructed and fully stocked after delivery, with the immense weight of these turkeys
still being well below the maximum weight load. Not only does this show the strength and durability of

We love to support charities close to our hearts, and each year, we support these charities through fundraisers and events. In September, we’ll be supporting Prostate Cancer UK once again, raising money for their admirable work for men across the UK who are suffering from prostate cancer, and who need life saving treatments.

Prostate Cancer UK’s top priority is funding research to stop prostate cancer taking lives. They’re investing millions to find better treatments and better tests that can spot fast-growing cancers early, and could be used in a screening programme to save thousands of lives.

How are we supporting the charity?

Craven & Co. have been supporting Prostate Cancer UK for years and in many different ways, and this is mainly through fundraising events such as golf days, sports dinners, and other similar events. This year, we are once again supporting the charity through golf days, the most recent of which will take place on the 11th of September at Shipley Golf Club.

As well as these fundraising days, we also donate and distribute Prostate Cancer UK’s ‘Man’ pins to visitors and customers to further support them, and we also provide a space at Craven HQ, where the charity holds their stock.

Coronavirus – Covid-19 – Customer & Supplier Update

As part of our group efforts to protect our workforce and assist in the potential spread of the Coronavirus ( Covid-19) Craven & Co have put  measures in place which include sanitiser stations (gel/handwipes) on all entrances to our site, put extra cleaning in place, introduced one way systems and full social distancing measures throughout the site as well as working with all members of staff to restrict travel where appropriate and to be debriefed on any arrivals back into the UK before returning to site.

All visitors must confirm they are free of symptoms and have not recently returned from high risk areas before entering the site. We are currently not accepting visitor unless absolutely necessary.

We are also monitoring all members of staff and have literature throughout the site detailing symptom recognition  and self-isolating

As a result of the World Health Organisation’s recommendations on quarantine due to the ongoing outbreak of Coronavirus affecting nations throughout the world – Craven & Co is monitoring its suppliers to minimise the potential impact on its obligations to customers as the spread of Covid 19 is worldwide.

IV Drip Stands and Nylon Shelving for the NHS

Throughout the last few months, we’ve created a number of products in larger volumes to assist the NHS in their admirable work throughout the global pandemic. We were asked to manufacture IV drip stands for use in the NHS Nightingale hospitals around the country and more recently, we’re helping the NHS once again with Nylon shelving to be used in large freezers.
